Accreditations & Awards

Western New Mexico University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and by the New Mexico Board of Education.

The School of Education's programs, which include WNMU-Gallup, are nationally and state accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE is the nation's premiere teacher education accrediting body. The last NCATE accreditation visit occurred fall semester of 2004. The next accreditation visit will occur spring 2010.

In 2005, the School of Education, including the WNMU-Gallup, received the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (NCATE) Best Practice Award in Support of Teacher Education Quality and Accountability. There are approximately 780 institutions across the country which belong to NACTE.

According to the Teach for America Annual Report, over 77% of WNMU Gallup TFA corps members in 2004 and 2005 responded that their university partnership with the WNMU-Gallup positively impacted their teaching. This compared to a national average of approximately 32% of TFA members ranking their university partnerships as positively impacting their teaching.

The Social Work program is accredited through the Council for Social Work Education.

Western New Mexico University is the 2003 Recipient of the Zia Award, the highest recognition of Quality New Mexico.
